Founded by horn player Matthew Horn in 2021, Mulberry Winds is made up of professional wind players who first came together for a single concert at the Marylebone Music Festival. With Mozart's E flat Serenade for Winds, the ensemble premiered on a soggy summer afternoon. And thus, by chance or providence, Mulberry Winds was formed.

"At night, at 11 o’ clock, I was treated to a serenade of two clarinets, two horns and two bassoons – which as it so happens was my own composition... The six gentlemen who performed it are poor devils who, however, played quite well together, particularly the first clarinettist and the two horn players. [...] these night musicians had asked for the doors to be opened and, after positioning themselves in the courtyard, they surprised me, just as I was getting undressed, most agreeably with the first chord of E flat…"
